All Valard Staff,
Driving is one of the most frequent tasks our people perform, and it is also one of the leading contributors to severe and life-altering incidents across our industry. That is exactly why LYTX DriveCam is in our vehicles. It isn’t there to watch you. It’s there to coach you, and to protect you, when it matters most.
Capacity Model principles start from a simple truth: human error is normal, and blame fixes nothing. We build capacity into our systems, through coaching, feedback, and objective evidence, so that when something goes wrong, our people are protected and we learn rather than point fingers. LYTX is one of those systems. It can only do its job if the lens can see.
Attached is an HSE Bulletin on a recurring issue: LYTX Lens Obstruction events across our fleet. Drivers are dismissing obstruction prompts instead of clearing them, and in some cases the camera itself is being covered, taped over, or tampered with. Every obstructed lens is a driver who could lose the evidence that would have supported them in a collision or incident review, or the real-time alert that might have helped them avoid the incident altogether.
Effective immediately: when a Lens Obstruction is recognized, prompted, or coached, clear it before continuing the trip. Interference with installed safety hardware is a direct violation of the Valard Vehicle Policy.
I need your help getting this to the people it matters most to, our crews and drivers who are in the field day in and day out:
- Read the attached bulletin in full.
- Supervisors and foremen: cover this at your next toolbox talk or pre-trip briefing, and confirm every driver on your crew understands it.
- Don’t rely on email alone to reach field staff. Print it, post it, brief it in person if that’s what it takes to get it in front of every driver.
This system exists to bring our people home. Help me make sure it can do its job.
